Get involved! Hear the latest and have your say when the Building Performance team hosts a webinar on Wednesday 17 June at 11am to update the sector on the building reforms that are underway.
Building industry professionals are invited to join Suzannah Toulmin, Manager Consenting and Practitioners Policy, and Micheal Warren, Manager Systems and Market Policy, for updates on the latest developments.
The Building Performance team will discuss a range of topics including:
- self-certification for plumbers and drainlayers
- occupational licensing
- earthquake-prone buildings
- proportionate liability, professional indemnity insurance and home warranties
- rooftop solar energy for homes
The Government has passed new laws allowing granny flats to be built without building consent, as part of its building reforms. From early this year, under the new building consent exemption, granny flats up to 70 square metres may be constructed without building consent if:
- the design is simple and complies with the Building Code
- construction is completed or supervised by licensed professionals, and
- homeowners notify their local council before commencing and upon completion of building work
Building Performance says this is part of the Government’s plan to help increase affordable, safe, healthy and durable housing for Kiwis.
Any questions ahead of the webinar should be emailed to building@mbie.govt.nz. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions on the webinar.
